Late Night Talk Shows Return To Air Tonight

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (January 2, 2008) – As the Hollywood writer’s strike enters its third month, the late night talk shows are finally returning; some with the support of the WGA and with writers back on board, while others will cross the picket line without using writers.

David Letterman and Craig Ferguson will return tonight with their writing staffs intact. Worldwide Pants, which produces “The Late Show” and “The Late Late Show,” brokered a deal with the WGA, which met the requirements of the strike. Both CBS late night talk shows are expected to return to their pre-strike format, complete with writer-written monologues and sketch material.

On the other side of the strike line, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel are also returning tonight, but without their writing staffs. They will reportedly have to improvise their entire opening monologues.

Over on the comedy news show front, “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” are scheduled to return on January 7th, also without writers.

Letterman will sit down with funny man Robin Williams and musical guest Lupe Fiasco, while Leno welcomes republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
